Kidd Star, born Aaron Payes, is a Producer as well as a DJ. Originally from Vestal, NY he now resides in Atlanta, GA as he continues his music career with his 2nd solo album.
A veteran DJ assassin on the turntables and over 15 years of touring as both a DJ and an Artist, he has played shows for thousands of people wanting to hear him as a DJ and hear his Music. Coming from NY as a kid, Kidd Star was always around DJs during the golden Hip-Hop era of the 80’s & early ’90’s. He used to carry his DJ friends record crates and sit through hours of house parties & club gigs watching them spin. Along with watching his friends DJ, Kidd Star was also taking piano lessons in his early years before entering high school. Without even knowing it Kidd Star was setting himself up as the hybrid artist of Producer & DJ.
Kidd Star moved to Charlotte, NC after college & started out as a promoter for the underground rave parties, Bass Wars. After a couple years of promoting, he realized DJing was what he wanted to pursue. In 2001, he formed the super group, 3 Bad Brothaz. Kidd Star and his group quickly got into remixing and transformed the club scene in ‘00’s with their new form of music, E-Hop, which was a fusion of Hip-Hop & Electronic music. Their mixtape, E-Hop, was the most distributed mix-tapes around the south in the ’00’s. This mix of music was used by DJs all over the country, in clubs everywhere & you can now hear E-Hop and its musical influence on any Pop Radio station today and its continued presence in the EDM scene.
In 2005, Kidd Star & his group, 3 Bad Brothaz, remixed Milk Inc.’s “Walk on Water”. That remix went #1 on Atlanta’s Q100FM for over 8 weeks straight ahead of Justin Timberlake & 50 Cent. Releasing their debut Album after that, 3 Bad Brothaz ‘The Live Wire Show’, was the #1 Independent selling album at Tower Records in 2006 & 2007.
Shortly after that the group parted ways and Kidd Star began his solo journey. Diving back into production to hone in on his sound, he began taking up lessons again under grammy nominated musician Buzz Amato, whom played keyboards in Curtis Mayfield’s band. In 2011, he released his first solo album, Kidd Star & The E-Hop Brigade which provided the southern booty anthem “Miss My Baby” which generated over 100,000 plays on Soundcloud & over 1 million views on Blastro.com. In addition, the second single released “Rah! (It’s Gametime)” went to #4 on Billboards CD Single Charts above International artists Pitbull & Flo Rida. Rah! It’s Gametime was also picked up by the Denver Broncos as their team intro song for the 2013 & 2014 season, along with sports teams such as the Portland Trailblazers, Orlando Solar Bears & Binghamton University all using it in their stadiums as their team song. Due to Rah!’s popularity within sports DJ Kidd Star was asked 2 years in a row to perform at the NCAA Final Four Tournament & Masters Tournament. “Rah! It’s Gametime” success continued with it being picked up in the movie, ‘Coming & Going’. Just this past Fall, EDM Giant Klaas from Germany remixed “Rah! It’s Gametime” & it has been played by numerous EDM Artists in the Festival circuit.
